Rishi Jangale
Mechanical Design Engineer
I design, model, and evaluate hardware for harsh terrestrial and extraterrestrial environments.
B.S., Ph.D., Texas A&M University, Mechanical Engineering
RoboBall
RoboBall is a family of pendulum-driven robots that push the boundaries of spherical robots in size and ruggedness to enable robust exploration where traditional vehicles struggle. My Ph.D. work spanned designing the robot’s pendulum drive and soft outer shell to maximize efficiency, mobility, and overall mission capabilities. Check out the sections below for my work in each of these fields.
Other Experience
I was Vice President of TURTLE, a robotics research student organization, from 2020 to 2023. I led a team of 14 officers and managed a budget of $20k to maintain 9 active research projects. I also helped ensure the organization survived the COVID pandemic shutdowns and grew the organization from 30 students when I became an officer to over 250 by the time I left, making it the largest robotics research organization at TAMU.
I also designed the solar panel mechanism for a 30-lb quadcopter to enable long-endurance missions, which won the TAMU Engineering Project Showcase.
I co-coordinated the summer internship program for the Robotics and Automation Design (RAD) Lab for 2024 and 2025. This program hired 30-35 undergraduate interns from all engineering majors from several universities to help on 13 distinct robotics projects within the RAD Lab, from academic research to industry/government contracts.
